High Yield vs Standard Yield: How do differentiate between the model name?

Ink is the consumable component of an inkjet printer while toner is the consumable component of a laser printer. HP ink cartridges commonly available in two different sizes: standard & high yield. For example, HP 63 and HP 63XL. Printers that use the HP 63 cartridge are compatible with HP 63XL or vice versa. Let’s take a look at the naming for HP ink cartridges & toners.

Inkjet Printer Cartridges: HP 63 vs HP 63XL
Cartridge Size Model Approx. Page Yield
Standard HP 63 (black) 190 pages
High Yield HP 63XL (black) 480 pages

 

Naming for HP toner cartridge sizes are a bit different. “A” and “X” are appended to its name respectively to differentiate between standard and high yield toner cartridge. “A” signified standard HP toner cartridge while “X” stands for high yield HP toner cartridge.

Laser Printer Cartridges: HP 201A vs HP201X
Cartridge Size Model Approx. Page Yield
Standard HP 201A (CF400A) 1500 pages
High Yield HP 201X (CF400X) 2800 pages

 

Other examples include “HP 80A vs HP 80X”, “HP 26A vs HP 26X” and etc.
